Network Rail is encouraging residents in the North East of England to sign up for email updates about railway work in their area. The service, available at www.networkrail.co.uk/railworknearme, provides timely information on maintenance, upgrades, and engineering projects, including potentially noisy work, overnight and weekend operations, and road closures or diversions. This digital approach not only saves paper and postage costs but also ensures residents receive the most up-to-date information. During a successful pilot in 2023, Network Rail sent over 207,000 notifications, saving a total of £362,988. Liz Wilmshurst, Network Rail's head of communications, emphasizes the benefits of the digital notification service, highlighting its environmental and financial advantages. With 25 million neighbors nationwide and a vast railway network to manage, Network Rail's focus on digital communication is a strategic move towards a more efficient and sustainable future. Residents can sign up for the service using the website or a QR code, ensuring they stay informed about railway work that may affect their daily lives.
