Marc Marquez's Epic Comeback: Hungarian GP Highlights (2026)

The MotoGP Hungarian GP was a thrilling spectacle, with Marc Marquez emerging victorious in a nail-biting duel with Pedro Acosta. The race was not without its drama, however, as the Aprilia duo of Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi collided at the start, setting the tone for a chaotic day on the track. This incident marked the second time in a row that Martin and Bezzecchi had been involved in a crash, raising questions about the reliability and safety of the Aprilia bikes.

Marquez, who had lost the race lead early on, demonstrated his resilience and skill by setting a series of fast laps to close the gap back to Acosta. The battle between the two intensified on lap 14 when Marquez completed a move into the Turn 9-10 chicane, only for Acosta to repass him into Turn 12. The two riders made contact, with Acosta hanging on to the lead, but Marquez eventually took the chequered flag by 1.3s, securing his 100th world championship race win and his first grandprix victorysince last September’s San Marino GP.

Acosta, despite having no answer to Marquez's pace, bagged a solid haul of points in second, while Francesco Bagnaia finished five seconds adrift in third to claim his third consecutive podium. The best-of-the-rest spot went to Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura, who climbed from 11th on the opening lap to finish fourth, passing Honda rider Luca Marini on the penultimate tour.

The Aprilia team's day was not without its setbacks, however. Martin, who had lost his Aprilia under braking for Turn 1 and crashed into his team-mate Bezzecchi, was forced to retire from the race. Bezzecchi, in turn, tagged the bikes of Fermin Aldeguer, Raul Fernandez and Fabio di Giannantonio, with only di Giannantonio able to remount his bike. Aldeguer and Fernandez were also forced to retire from the race, while Bezzecchi was unable to continue due to a collision with Martin.

The race was a testament to Marquez's skill and determination, as he overcame a difficult start and a challenging opponent in Acosta to emerge victorious. The incident between the Aprilia duo, however, raises questions about the reliability and safety of the Aprilia bikes, and the team will need to address these issues if they are to remain competitive in the future.
