The Alouette River Management Society (ARMS) recently hosted an engaging event, inviting families to the ALLCO Fish Hatchery and Geoff Clayton Rivers Heritage Centre in Maple Ridge. This event, named ALLCO Family Fishing Day, was a resounding success, attracting approximately 50 participants eager to immerse themselves in the local ecosystem and learn about fish and wildlife.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for participants to learn the art of fishing. Teams from Go Fish BC and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC guided attendees through the process of catching rainbow trout, providing a hands-on experience that was both educational and enjoyable. The event also featured a complimentary lunch, generously provided by the Maple Ridge Lions Club, ensuring that everyone had the energy to fully engage with the activities.
In addition to fishing, attendees had the chance to meet 'Small Eyes', the Northern Spotted Owl ambassador. This unique encounter allowed participants to learn about the endangered Northern Spotted Owl species from the Northern Spotted Owl Breeding Society. The event also featured a creative touch with Grace of SeaStar Faces, who painted faces with sea creatures, adding a playful element to the day.
