The Emilia-Romagna Round of 2025 saw Bimota make history, with Axel Bassani securing the team's first-ever front-row start in WorldSBK. Fast forward to the present, and Lowes replicated this feat, becoming the first non-Ducati rider to qualify on the front row in Superpole this year.
However, as the saying goes, qualifying is just the first step. Lowes' race day didn't quite live up to the promise of his Superpole performance, as he finished fifth, behind both Yari Montella and his own teammate, Bassani. Despite this, Lowes maintained a positive outlook, reflecting on the day's events with a mix of satisfaction and determination.
"Qualifying was fantastic; I was thrilled to be on the front row. In World Superbike, qualifying is everything. My best lap ever at Misano was a real confidence boost. However, the changing track conditions between qualifying and the race made it challenging to maintain that same level of comfort on the bike."
The race itself saw Lowes engage in an intense battle with Bassani, with the two riders pushing each other to the limit. While Lowes had some fun moments, ultimately, Bassani's speed proved too much, and he emerged victorious in the battle for fifth place.
"I had a great time racing with Axel. We were both pushing hard, and it was a true test of our skills. He managed to get past me a few times, but I fought back. He was faster than me today, and it was difficult for me to defend my position. I tried to stay with him to create some distance from the other riders, but it wasn't meant to be."
Despite the outcome, Lowes remained optimistic, focusing on the positives and looking ahead to the next race.
"I'm proud of both our bikes finishing in the top five. It was a good qualifying session, and overall, it was a positive day for Bimota, especially considering this was our home race. I'll take the lessons learned from today and work on improving my own performance and the bike's setup for tomorrow. I believe we can do well; the confidence is there, and we just need to fine-tune a few things."
